The Evolution of the e-book
I am a follower of a number of Australian independent publishing companies on Twitter. I have noticed lately a new trend amongst their tweets and postings involving e-books. This is a hot Web 2.0 topic in the publishing world, and for good reason. With the development of e-books, traditional books and all publishers come under threat. Whether this threat is justified or not is something I am interested in exploring. The main players in the plot of the e-book are Amazon’s Kindle and the Sony Reader. While the Reader has been around since September 2006 and Kindle since November 2007 … Continue

Getting to grips with Twitter: Part 2
The statistics I mentioned in my last post, and my confusion of the past few days have got me thinking again. Maybe they also point out that Twitter is not really that accessible to new users? Now lets define ‘social’, a body of humans generally seen as a community or group. Person, affection, trust, human, community and human. A corporate does not belong on social networking platforms as they themselves cannot … Continue

Make my business a quick buck
I noticed the same question keeps coming up whenever new social media sites pop up and this is ‘how can my company benefit from this?’ My schools of thought around this concept for ages were something like ‘back off you money hungry large corporations’ not everything is here to be exploited in order to make a buck. Advertising just drives me crazy and any one who thinks they’re smart enough to do a ‘subtle’ marketing campaign via social media is just kidding themselves. I think that there is a general misconception about social networking – it’s not going to drastically … Continue

Unlocking the Value of Social Media: An Approach for Small Business
Over the last number of years, social media companies, and the tools they have developed, have received ever increasing column inches in the business press. It seems when real news is sparse business columns get used up telling us how the latest social media tool is being used by a large company or a quirky celebrity to do something fuzzy like generate awareness or grow their brand. Naturally as an internet advisory company, these articles are of interest to us and we are constantly trying out the new technologies mentioned. However, when we discuss social media tools with our clients … Continue
