Optical Pigeon

This year the Australian Government committed $43 Billion to the establishment of a superfast broadband network to home and workplaces across the country. It promises to offer speeds of between 13 and 30Mbps. My current connection loads Facebook, email, Youtube etc in a matter of seconds, so unless I begin to transfer Gigabyte files, I personally don’t need any more speed. Just say I do need to transfer, say a 256 GB file to Sydney, would the new network be useful? Buy a pigeon! Not all countries have the luxury of superfast internet, take South Africa for example. Unlimited IT, … Continue »

Augmented Reality

Picture this… You are looking to rent a house in your favourite tree lined street. Simply pull out your mobile phone, open the new Layar browser, and select the ‘houses’ as your criteria. The mobile phone camera is then enabled, and you are in augmented reality.  The display shows real time digital information on top of the camera image, and uses GPS to provide location-based information over the image. As you direct you phone to different landmarks around you, dots point our houses for rent, photos inside the building, weekly payments and more.  If a landmark is distant or obscured … Continue »

Aggregate please

I officially suffer from SM overload. For me to continue to login, manage, update, view and respond to all my networks, I need to quit my job, or make it my job. The convergence of social media is happening, what it will look like is unclear. At a micro level, the networks including … Continue »
