STOP PRESS: Banker admits Social Media is vital
Now, please be gentle, I am new to all of this. I openly admit to an inordinate amount of technical ignorance (I just found out Web 2.0 is not something I need to download) but unlike a lot of my peers I plan to do something about it. The beauty of it all is that I am going to get you to help me. After all, isn’t that what Social Media is all about? Let’s start at the beginning so you know a bit better where I am coming from. I am a banker, yes a dirty word these days … Continue

Just Google It!
Over the last couple of years “I’ll Google it” or “Just Google it” has become a commonly used phrase for me. I Google everything; phone numbers, addresses, people, potential employers, words I don’t know… Google I found improved my efficiency enormously, the challenge was, sharing this little tool of mine with the older generation (my parents!). …. My parents historically have called me at the most annoying times, asking the most ridiculous questions. “What does it mean when the TV screen starts flashing different colours of the rainbow?” For years, I would have to remove myself from the earshots of … Continue

Welcome to Jolicloud
A little over 3 months ago I uninstalled Microsoft Outlook, after 7 years of service. With multiple email addresses, calenders and a contact list, synchronizing between my laptop, home PC, Blackberry and Itouch was onerous. So imagine the struggle I faced when migrating my Asus to a Macbook, yet another complexity in my web of device synchronization. So Google came to the rescue. I set up a free Gmail account, prepare all my email accounts, load my Google calendar and address book, install the Google Blackberry app and Itouch settings. I’m now in the cloud. Any update from any device … Continue

A dilemma, LinkedIn or Plaxo
I have been a LinkedIn user for many years now, and over that time I have built up 150 or so connections with users that I have met on my networking adventures. After meeting someone, LinkedIn allows me see information about that person that would otherwise not come up in conversation. I can also see their contacts, and their contacts contact, which is a great way to build on the network. But I have a dilemma, LinkedIn is but one of many social networking slash contact management tools. So when the other day, after a networking function I get a … Continue

Melbourne Entrepreneurs Meetup 7/7/09
On Tuesday 7th July some of the team from b2cloud attended the social networking discussion run by the Melbourne Entrepreneurs Meetup Group. It was held at a pub on Spencer Street, after work (around 6:15pm). The atmosphere was engaging, all participants were in a circle and it had a warm feeling to it. There were all different types of personalities there, the loud ones that kept the conversation going, the witty ones that would occasionally present a summary on their views, the quite ones observing, the ones that had come there with a specific question in mind and me with … Continue

What is: Twitter
Twitter is a form a blog known as a microblog. So what’s a microblog? It’s a short blog post – less than 140 characters. Twitter was founded from a one-day brainstorming session, the idea started as an SMS service that could allow a small group to communicate with each other from wherever they were. They came up with the name “Twitter” when they saw the definition for it – a short burst of inconsequential information and realized that was exactly what the idea was. Tweets are when people updated their status or burst out their next inconsequential bit of information … Continue
