Work or Play?
My recent blog ‘Finding the Dream Job with Social Media’ got me thinking more about business networking and its place within the broad sphere of social media. Is business networking different to social networking? Should we keep the two separate? Are business networks a credible tool for employers and prospective employees alike? In an article from SEOmoz a selection of social and business networking sites are described with regard to their use as marketing tools. I will continue with Linkedin as an example; SEOmoz explain that this site is beneficial for gaining brand exposure for your business as it receives … Continue

Skype Me
I was never a Skype user. I didn’t have a computer with a camera so it was really just too hard. I could’ve just plugged a camera into my computer (can you do that?) but anyway that would have been far too much of an effort just to call someone, which I can already very easily do by picking up my mobile (or if I’m short on money, picking up my home phone). So when I got my new Apple Mac, with its handy little built in camera, I was told by my friends I had to install Skype. I … Continue

Twitter and Education
Twitter and Education As we here at b2cloud see it, social media is here to stay, and as with any up and coming technology, often it is the young who take to it quickly, this raises the question for all the school-aged web 2.0ers – while there’s no doubt that it can be fun, even informative, can it be educational? This article in USA News focuses on the educational potential of web 2.0 applications – and uses the current media darling twitter as an example. The idea of an online collaborative tool is not revolutionary, indeed, perhaps attempting to use … Continue

What is: the cloud
In the early days of photography the great Alfred Stieglitz was accused of always being in the right place at the right time. In protest, Stieglitz then proceeded to take photos of clouds for the rest of his career – because they were the same to everyone. His photos remained breathtakingly beautiful. Today the cloud is simultaneously about both of these things – being in the right place, and being accessible. The Cloud is the name for a network of applications available … Continue

Finding the Dream Job using Social Media
Unemployed? Perhaps spending your jobless days on the net and more specifically social media sites is not such a bad habit to get into after all. Typing ‘job search’ into Twitter’s search engine shows how effective social media can be in assisting in the quest for employment. Whether all results from this Twitter search are credible is another story. It is important to be selective and critical. Twitter has a number of applications dedicated to finding jobs, including ‘Twitter Job Search’ and ‘Twellow’ (Twitter’s version of the Yellow Pages). Linkedin is another social networking site that can be of help … Continue

My Social Media Path
As I see it this is the path for me so far….. 2001 – Year Seven When I was in my early years of high school, chat rooms were the go, you would go online, chat with complete strangers with bizarre names from all over the world, until your parents would walk in, decide that what you were doing was dangerous and ban you from the computer. 2003 – Year Nine Then within a few years it was made possible for me to search for my friends online using MSN, you’d type in their email address and instead of spending … Continue
